Virtual Walking Tour: Wonders of Ashkelon National Park
Hosted By: The Museum of Jewish Heritage-- A Living Memorial to the Holocaust
Ashkelon is a picturesque coastal city, located on the Via Maris, an ancient trade route dating from the early Bronze Age linking Egypt with the northern empires of Syria, Anatolia, and Mesopotamia. Its plentiful water sources and fertile soil account for its prominence through the ages. It is believed that the first settlement on the site of the current city dates back to five thousand years ago, making Ashkelon one of the oldest cities on earth. On this tour, tourists walk through the Canaanite City Gate, the oldest arched gate in the world. Attendees will learn its history, see the unique mosaic, and enjoy breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea.
