Visions of Esther: Painted Portraits of Faith and Fate
Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning
The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Education will explore how artists from different cultures have shaped our understanding of the Book of Esther through their depictions of its key figures. With a focus on 17th-century Dutch art, the session will examine how Esther became a symbol of resilience and independence during the Netherlands’ struggle against Spanish rule. Virtual visits to major museums will highlight how artists like Rembrandt infused the Purim story with themes of courage, identity, and political influence.
