Ingredients
- 6–8 slices of challah bread
- 4 eggs
- 1½ cups whole milk
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp allspice
- ¼ tsp cardamom
- pinch ground cloves
- pinch ground black pepper
- pinch salt
- 2 tsp butter
For serving:
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- ⅛ tsp ground cloves
- additional butter (optional)
- maple syrup
Instructions
- Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla and spices.
- Soak bread in egg-milk mixture for 1-2 minutes.
- Add 2 tsp butter to a large pan set over medium heat. When butter starts to bubble slightly, add 2-3 pieces of bread to pan.
- Cook each side 2-3 minutes until golden bread. Flip and repeat 2 minutes.
- Mix ½ cup powdered sugar with 1/8 tsp ground cloves. Top French toast with spiced powdered sugar, more butter and maple syrup.
