Sound the alarms: It’s officially pumpkin spice season, and nothing is safe from being infected by this prevalent seasonal ingredient. Not even hummus.
Remember when The Hummus & Pita Co. jumped on the using-hummus-in-horrifying ways bandwagon and released a vegan hummus milkshake line? Well, they’re dropping jaws again with their latest flavor: Yup, you guessed it — pumpkin spice.
When my editor asked me to try the Pumpkin Spice Vegan Hummus Shake, I was skeptical. Hummus, pumpkin, and whipped cream? Not exactly a classic flavor combo. But, fulfilling my civic duty as a journalist, I had to test it for the general public.
First, I sampled the classic hummus shake base. It’s comprised of chickpeas (the “hummus” is actually just mashed chickpeas and doesn’t include traditional ingredients like garlic, olive oil, and lemon juice), tahini, bananas, dates, and almond milk.

The verdict? Surprisingly delicious!
The base is thick and creamy, and the almond milk overpowered any hint of chickpea. It definitely didn’t taste like the hummus I was expecting.
While I sipped on the sample, an employee (with the most mesmerizing eyes, like, OMG!) concocted the pumpkin spice shake. He mixed a couple scoops of fresh pumpkin mash with the base, and topped the shake with almond milk whipped cream and cinnamon dust.
To be honest, I didn’t taste a big difference between the base and the pumpkin shake, but there was definitely a faint pumpkin flavor. It was much creamier than I expected it to be, but if you need a super strong pumpkin spice fix, look elsewhere. Then again, it’s an awesome, healthier sweet treat, especially if you are vegan or gluten-free.
I’ll have to head back in a couple of months to test the next seasonal hummus shake flavor: egg nog, of course!
