Yom Kippur Break-Fast Menu

Easy and satisfying post-fast dishes that are sure to leave you in a contented food coma.

As that classic Jewish joke goes, every holiday in our tradition seems something like this: They tried to kill us, we survived, now let’s eat. But Yom Kippur is a bit different, of course. We prepare for the meal we will have before the fast, and we prepare heavily for the meal we will enjoy after our fast. And then we kvetch endlessly in-between the two.

Fasting isn’t easy, and it isn’t for everyone. But there are also some beautiful Jewish food traditions from all over the Diaspora that create nourishing meals we get to enjoy after this somber, reflective day.

I always think that after a fast you need something refreshing to drink, something carby to fill you up, something savory to replenish your salts and something sweet to give you a quick boost of energy. Here is an array of my favorite dishes on The Nosher that would make an ideal break fast menu.
