Last night’s spelling bee has everyone asking, what is chremslach? This tricky Yiddish word for a flat, fried cake, showed up in the final round of the National Spelling Bee on Thursday night, but for the 13-year-old speller from New York, it was nothing to schvitz about.
According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Jewish foods are apparent favorites in National Spelling Bee final competitions. Here’s just one more reason (did you even need one?) for knowing your blintzes from your knaidels, kugels, and kichels.
