The 7 Most Outrageous Hamantaschen on Instagram

From reworked classics to modern flavor combinations, there's no limit to hamantachens' potential!

The buzz around hamantaschen is rapidly catching up to sufganiyot hype, and we are here for it! Hamantaschen, however, are trickier to perfect — in the wrong hands, they can be a miserable mouthful of dry dough and flavorless filling. But when done right, these triangular cookies can reach dizzying heights.

There will always be a place for classic flavors like poppy seed and prune, but we love it when people get creative. This year welcomed a new crop of totally outrageous, out-of-the-box hamantaschen that we can’t wait to try. We rounded up the best on Instagram for your enjoyment.

1. Barbecue Meatball Hamantaschen

Who said hamantaschen had to be sweet? We’re all about a savory rendition, and nothing looks more tempting than Miriam Pascal, AKA Overtime Cook’s, meaty, sticky, totally modern take.

4. Purple Sweet Potato, Eggplant, and Cheese Hamantaschen

Pastry chef Lior Mashiach, AKA lioroooosh, forgoes the now-classic cookie dough in favor of puff pastry. These savory beauties look like the lovechild of Purim and bourekas, and we can’t wait to have a go.

6. Strawberry Shortcake Hamantaschen

Admittedly, The Culinary Trio’s hamantaschen do not fall under the “outrageous” category. But they do fall under the “delicious” category, which is almost as good. We love the addition of dried strawberries to give the cookies a real berry punch.

My husband’s favorite cake is strawberry shortcake. To him, chocolate or vanilla cake is a waste but a the strawberry shortcake is king. When one of my son’s was turning 4 I asked my husband to pick up a cake for his class birthday party. Wanting him to be happy my husband bought what he liked, strawberry shortcake which obviously was rejected by almost all the four year olds – including the birthday boy because “ewww jelly”. But the truth is strawberry shortcake is delicious and this hamentashen proves it. This hamentashen is dedicated to my husband. By adding freeze dried strawberry chunks into the actual dough there’s strawberry in every bite. Feel free to make your own custard and jam or buy store bought, either way the outcome will be delicious. 1 batch of your favorite hamentashen dough 1 c freeze dried strawberries lightly crushed 1/2 c vanilla custard 1/2 c strawberry jam Glaze: 1/2 c confectioners sugar 1 tsp oil 1 tsp vanilla A few drops of hot water 1. Mix freeze dried strawberries with hamentashen dough 2. Mix equal amounts custard and jam and. Fill hamentashen 3. Garnish with an additional freeze dried strawberry and bake on 350 for 9-11 minutes 4. Combine all glaze ingredients until thick consistency forms 5. Place glaze in a ziplock bag, cut a small hole and drizzle hamentashen . . . . . . . . . #kosher #kosherfood #kosherfoodie #purim #hamantaschen #food #foodie #forkyea #eeeeeats #nomnom #foodporn #eatingfortheinsta #dessert #strawberry #cake #f52 #instayum #yummy #foodphotography #chefmode #noshthis #jewish #jew #gloobyfood #foodiesofinstagram #foodstagram #noshthis
