I am in Los Angeles this week visiting my family, checking out some fun kid-friendly activities (sidenote: Kidspace Museum is awesome) and, of course, eating. My daughter always make sure to hit up our favorite ramen joint as soon as we arrive, as well as Porto’s Bakery in Burbank for Cuban coffee and pastry.
But this trip I knew I wanted to venture to Amelia’s Bakery and Café, where they are producing some beautiful French-Israeli style treats. I had first seen Yoav Rogel’s beautiful and unique pastry creations on Instagram and was excited for the chance to head there in person to do some tasting.
They have all the French classics like almond croissants, quiche and decadent cakes, and some Israeli favorites like shakshuka, bourekas and a rich babka, which was featured by Eater LA. But they also carry a selection of savory rugelach in flavors like jalapeno cream cheese, olive feta and spinach ricotta. They were all delicious, and very light, though I must admit: The chocolate were still my favorite.

They also had on display the most beautiful raspberry colored croissant, though I had already stuffed myself with rugelach, bourekas, shakshuka and even a homemade lox croissant sandwich, so I had to forgo a second croissant. Yes, that’s my version of dieting. But, it just gives me another reason to head back on my next trip. (Did I mention you can also order from them online!?)
